SummitCare Community | Education

SummitCare recognises staff as one of its greatest assets; but like all assets, if there is no care and attention given to the staff they will become demotivated and lose interest in the outcomes for the residents in their care. We are required under the Accreditation Standards to ensure that staff are appropriately trained to undertake their roles in the workplace. SummitCare also knows that education and training opportunities for staff are the factors that differentiate mediocre organisations from quality organisations. Staff need to have access to education and training opportunities that are of a high standard, relevant, current and appropriate to the environment in which they work.

SummitCare ensure that each employee has the opportunity to identify their own learning needs through an annual survey and also during each employee's annual performance review. This information allows each facility Education Coordinator to develop a training and education calendar that is relevant for all staff. SummitCare offer a range of in-house workshops as well as accessing external educational programs, conferences and study days. We are strategically partnered with the Aged Care Careers Pathway program; the Australian Institute of Management and Western Sydney Institute.

SummitCare have offered staff the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in the following areas: Aged Care; Leisure and Lifestyle; Frontline Management; Workplace Assessment & Training; Financial Services; Hospitality (Catering); Workplace English Language and Literacy.

We are committed to being recognised as a learning organisation to benefit not only the residents in terms of the care and service they receive but to give the staff the experience of personal satisfaction and sense of achievement in gaining a nationally recognised qualification that applies directly to their work role. The success story is not simply the staff passing the course but the improvement in resident outcomes in care and service delivery across the group. We celebrate the success of our staff completing these courses at the Annual Staff Recognition Event held in October each year.
