National Carers Week is about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our nation.

Carers make an enormous contribution to our communities and care industry by volunteering and giving their time to those who are unable to support and care for themselves. Australia’s 2.7 million (approx.) unpaid carers, in fact, make up such a unique and strong workforce that according to Carers NSW, should they cease their work it would cost Australia $60.3 billion per year to replace those supports.

That’s over $1 billion per week.

Makes you think, doesn’t it? That so many people dedicate their time to others without recompense or reward because they are caring for someone they love or they simply wish to volunteer their time. These people truly are our unsung heroes, and this week we are not only recognising the incredible efforts and struggles they go through each and every day, we’re also creating awareness of what they do to let them know we care.

Today marks the beginning of National Carers Week, and together we can pull our support behind these legends who do so much for those who need their help. Carers who put other people’s needs before their own and in many cases provide 24/7 care, which is a BIG job!

So share this message, that we say THANK YOU, for all the hard work you do each and every day. Thank you, for being the heart of care, compassion and kindness. Thank you, for being strong and creating an impact to the lives of others.

We care that you care.

National Carers Week is an initiative of Carers Australia, with primary activities funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS).
